Why Pāḷi?

The Pāḷi Canon (Tipiṭaka) is the most complete surviving record of the Buddha’s teachings. Pāḷi is a Middle Indo-Aryan language closely related to the dialects spoken in northern India during the Buddha’s lifetime. Studying even basic Pāḷi deepens one’s understanding of the Dhamma, since many key terms have no exact English equivalent.

Orthodox Theravāda upholds the Pāḷi Canon as the authoritative foundation of the Dhamma and Vinaya.
